Welcome to our new Pets as Therapy dog!
Which children benefit?
At Cranfield Church of England Academy a wide range of children visit our Pets as Therapy dog, Tia (and her owner Denise).
These include:
- Children who are reluctant to read, including those with special educational needs e.g. autistic spectrum disorder, selective mutism, learning difficulties, emotional and social difficulties, speech, language and communication difficulties.
- Children who are experiencing emotional distress due to circumstances in their home lives.
- Children who benefit from the confidence they develop by building a relationship with Margot and Harris.
What does a session look like?
Tia and Denise visit school once a week and the children meet them in a quiet room. They are supported by a member of school staff. The children share their books with Tia and Denise and then have a chat about the story and about things that have happened since they last met. Some children read individually, whilst others share a book with her in a small group.
