Year Group Weekly Updates
Each week, the teachers in each year group write a small update newsletter to keep parents up to date and informed on life in their child's class. These are glued in the children's Home School Link, alongside other personalised communications for all to enjoy. If you have any questions about life in your child's class, please do speak to your child's class teacher who will be happy to help.
If you would prefer to read the weekly updates in an alternative language, click the button at the top of this page.
Reception - Robins, Wrens and Redwings:
A huge welcome to all of our fantastic new Reception children! All of the staff have been so impressed with the way that the children (and parents) are coming in so nicely in the morning and settling to one of our activities!
This week we have been looking closely at our Golden Rules. These are shared by the whole school and can be found on our website. Our five Golden Rules are:
- Be kind and helpful
- Respect others
- Look after property
- Work hard
- Be gentle
The children are becoming experts at sitting on the carpet with ‘school legs’, facing the front and putting their hand up before they talk. We will start teaching Phonics and Maths lessons soon and will share with you weekly what we have been learning.
We will be sending reading books home next week. To begin with the books may not have any words in them. Please take time every night to talk about the pictures and perhaps make up a story to go with them. Please write in your child’s home school link book every day and bring their reading book into school tucked in their home school link book every morning so it can be changed. These go in the box by the classroom door.
Your child’s Home School Link book is a valuable source of communication between school and home. We will write in it regularly and ask that you use it too to share any information with us, including if someone different is collecting your child at the end of the day.
Thank you for your support in such a successful first week of school!
Year One - Penguins, Puffins and Parrots:
We hope you had an enjoyable Summer holiday. It has been wonderful welcoming the new Penguins, Puffins and Parrots into Year 1. They have settled in so well. We hope they have enjoyed their first week!
We have begun our exciting ‘Time Travellers’ topic where we explored a box of mysterious objects that the teachers discovered over the Summer holiday. I wonder if your child can tell you who they think it belongs to? We have started learning about and describing dinosaurs and creating dinosaur art. In maths this week we have been counting and recognising numbers. The children have really impressed us!
Please can we ask that you write in your child’s Home School Link book or speak to the Class Teacher if your child is being collected from school by a different adult to usual. We appreciate your support with this.
Just a reminder that children in Year 1 are required to bring in a named water bottle every day. Please also ensure that PE kits are in school all week. On a Thursday evening Home School Links will stay in school.
If you ever have any queries or questions please do not hesitate to talk to a member of the Year 1 team.
Year Two Team - Bluebirds, Blackbirds and Buzzards:
We hope the children have been telling you all about their first week in Year Two! We have been very busy settling down and getting into the ‘swing’ of life in Year Two. In Literacy this week we have started to learn about VCOP and how to develop into an even better writer. We have also enjoyed learning about Mr Odd and Mrs Even and using our wonderful Numicon resource to support us. We have made a start on our topic ‘Fabulous and Famous’, which has already engaged the children.
The children in Bluebirds and Blackbirds will be having their PE lessons on a Thursday and Friday and Buzzards will be a Wednesday and Thursday. On this note, as the weather begins to deteriorate please may we ask for the children to have outdoor tracksuit bottoms and trainers and indoor shorts, just in case.
The children at St Peters will visit the Library on a Tuesday and in Buzzards on a Friday, please do ensure your child brings their book in on this day if it needs to be changed.
Thank you to everyone who has already completed the Parent Permission form via ParentMail, if not please could this be done as soon as possible.
We look forward to enjoying our second week of learning with our delightful Year 2 children! Wishing you a restful weekend.
Year Three Team - Owls, Ospreys and Ostriches:

This week, the children have already impressed us with their super literacy VCOP skills. The children have also shown off their times table skills in mathematics. We have discussed the topics that we are looking forward to learning over the coming year and have begun with our first Creative Curriculum topic of Ruthless Romans.
We do hope your child enjoys their reading book over the weekend – we look forward to reading with them more next week. Please note we expect the children to read at home a minimum of 3 times a week and this should be noted in the HSL. Please note in Key Stage 2 the children are no longer given a piece of fruit at break time but they may bring a healthy snack of their own!
We hope you have a wonderful and restful weekend.
