What support will my EAL child receive?

We would like to ensure your child settles into our school as quickly as possible to enable them to access the full curriculum and feel happy and content.

When your child joins us for the first time, and if you plan on your child coming by bus, we recommend that you come with them on their first day to drop them off. This will help them feel more confident in what can be a daunting process for young children who are experiencing very unfamiliar environments and language.

In their classroom, your child will be given a welcome pack which includes pictorial resources to help them communicate with their peers and Teachers. All children with little or no English will attend regular intervention groups with our English as an Additional Language Teaching Assistants. During this time, your child will work towards targets with small achievable steps which support their English acquisition in terms of speaking, listening, reading and writing. This will support them in accessing the full curriculum in school.
